Alexis joined gbi three years ago, after graduating in mechanical engineering from Polytechnique Montréal in 2021. Attracted by the countless opportunities offered in this field, he immediately joined the gbi team, where he was able to put his passion for engineering into practice. From a young age, Alexis has always loved building or repairing all sorts of things, a passion he probably inherited from his father, also an engineer. His career path reflects his dedication and enthusiasm for the profession, as well as his constant desire to take on new technical challenges.
« During my first two years, I gained a lot of experience in site supervision, then I began a transition to project management about 1 year ago. I mainly focus on projects in the healthcare field, particularly those related to medical imaging currently. My work on these projects consists of preparing and setting up spaces to accommodate this sophisticated medical equipment. A crucial aspect of my role is to manage the constraints specific to medical equipment, such as the management of the heat released by these devices and the tight requirements of healthcare facilities. These elements are essential to ensure a safe and functional environment for medical staff and patients.
Working at gbi offers me the opportunity to take on unique challenges and contribute to projects that have a direct impact on the quality of healthcare. It is an enriching experience that strengthens my sense of belonging to the firm and motivates me to excel in my profession. »
« Outside of work, I enjoy a well-balanced life filled with social, athletic and personal activities. I am an avid runner and am currently training for another marathon. The feeling of crossing the finish line after months of training is incomparable.
Climbing is another passion of mine. I particularly appreciate the physical and mental challenge it represents, but also how it allows me to disconnect from the fast pace of life while enjoying a great dose of adrenaline.
Traveling also takes up a large part of my interests; with more than twenty countries visited so far, the list of future destinations continues to grow. In winter, snowboarding takes over. I love traveling to Western Canada to explore new mountains that are much more technical and snowy. These getaways are the perfect opportunity to recharge my batteries and come back to work with renewed energy. »
« A project I am particularly proud of is the replacement of the only MRI in a hospital center. It was my first project as a project manager at gbi, and it represented an important step in my career.
What struck me about this project was the human and collaborative aspect. Working closely with a diverse team was an enriching experience that emphasized the importance of proactivity and communication to meet everyone's needs.
The project began with a careful planning phase, where we had to take into account multiple technical constraints, security requirements and very tight deadlines. Seeing the project develop from A to Z, from the first sketches to the final installation of the MRI, was extremely rewarding.
The success of this project is based on the synergy of the team and the efficient management of each step. This experience allowed me to strengthen my project management skills and develop a better understanding of the specific challenges related to medical equipment. »
« Since joining the gbi team, I have developed several key skills that are essential to my role as a project manager.
One of the major skills I have honed is organization. Working on complex projects requires careful preparation and rigorous management of time and resources. I have learned to anticipate needs and plan each step of the project in advance, which has become one of my main strengths.
In addition, I have developed resilience in the face of adversity. Representing gbi on construction sites involves facing unforeseen challenges and finding solutions quickly. This experience has taught me to stay calm and keep a positive attitude even in difficult situations, while maintaining the quality and integrity of our work.
These skills have not only helped me successfully complete demanding projects, but have also strengthened my ability to work effectively under pressure, communicate clearly with stakeholders, and represent gbi professionally and confidently in the field. »
