gbi wins three prestigious awards at the 2024 Canadian Consulting Engineering Awards of Excellence gala

gbi is proud to announce that it has won three awards at the annual gala of the Association of Consulting Engineering Companies of Canada, held in Ottawa on October 24. The projects honored were the design of a modular multi-dwelling and the deconstruction of the Champlain Bridge, in collaboration with Harbourside Engineering, which received two of the trophies.

The project to deconstruct the original Champlain Bridge was awarded two prizes during the evening. First, the Prix d'Excellence in the Transportation category, then the gala's most prestigious award, the Schreyer Prize. This is the highest distinction awarded to a Canadian consulting engineering firm for technical excellence and innovation.

Also, it was the design project for a modular multi-dwelling unit that won the Award of Excellence in the Gala's Special Projects category. Designed in collaboration with Bonneville Homes, this project also won a trophy at the Grands Prix du génie-conseil québécois (AFG) gala on September 23, in the Building-Structure category.

“We are very pleased with the collaboration with gbi engineers and especially with structural expert Andrew Crossley, P.Eng. Our approach to factory-built modular multi-housing can reduce site time by 50% and cut construction waste considerably. These awards confirm Bonneville's leadership and demonstrate the feasibility of modular multihousing for small or large projects. Together, we can help alleviate the housing crisis,” says Gabrielle Bonneville, Senior Director, Real Estate & Construction, Industries Bonneville.

“The project to deconstruct the old Champlain Bridge represented a major challenge. In collaboration with Harbourside Engineering Group, we succeeded in meeting the objectives and deadlines, while minimizing the environmental impact. This success is due to the innovative deconstruction methods we developed, the expertise of our teams, and our engineering ideas, which made this project a beacon for the future” David Mousseau, ing. structural director, gbi.

“We would like to highlight the exceptional talent and know-how of the people who work at gbi. These awards are a testament to our teams' commitment to providing exceptional engineering solutions and meeting the challenges of our time. We are honoured to be recognized among the best in the country, and we will continue to innovate for a sustainable future,” said Pierre-Samuel Beaudoin, Vice President Strategic Consulting, gbi.

Finally, gbi would like to congratulate and thank its partners and customers for their trust and collaboration, which were essential to the realization of these incredible projects.
