Maryka Jolicoeur : Charting her own path

Even though when she was choosing a career, Maryka hesitated between architecture and civil engineering, two fields that she is passionate about, Maryka is now certain that she has found her path as an engineer in the Transport team at our Repentigny office. Curious at heart and with a thirst for knowledge, she shares with us that she is happy to be able to evolve in a collective focused on mentoring where she can learn a little more every day.

What are your main responsibilities and tasks in your current position ?

« My role as an engineer at gbi focuses on traffic studies. I am in charge of conducting detailed studies on road and pedestrian traffic, analyzing vehicle flows and modeling intersections to assess their impact on urban mobility.

Once the projects are underway, I am also involved in monitoring construction sites to ensure that traffic regulations are respected. This responsibility requires constant communication with the teams on the ground in order to make real-time adjustments if necessary.

Finally, a significant part of my work involves writing service proposals related to the traffic aspects of projects. This includes formulating technical requirements and recommendations to improve traffic flow, as well as managing impacts during the duration of the work. »

What are the challenges you face in your field of expertise and how do you approach them ?

« Each project brings its own unique challenges and new situations that I must adapt to. To address these, I adopt a case-by-case approach. I also rely on the experience of my more experienced colleagues and do not hesitate to ask them for advice or guidance when faced with complex situations.

Mentoring plays a crucial role in my professional approach. By working alongside more experienced people, I have the opportunity to learn from their experiences, benefit from their advice and expertise. I see these challenges as opportunities for learning and professional growth.»

How does gbi promote a work-life balance for its employees ?

«I can always work flexibly, which helps me balance my work and personal life. Teleworking is an option that makes my daily life simpler and less stressful.

The Transport team also organizes events to strengthen team spirit. These moments are important to create strong bonds between us and to foster a friendly atmosphere at work. »

What are the key skills you have developed since joining gbi ?

« I have learned to interact with various stakeholders such as clients and partners, which has allowed me to better understand their expectations and maintain a smooth collaboration throughout projects. Working closely with architects and urban planners has also enriched my career. This coordination between different disciplines is essential to align ideas and ensure a coherent approach in the design and delivery of projects.

Project management is another skill that I have been able to refine. This ranges from planning and monitoring deadlines to problem solving and resource management. This ability to efficiently orchestrate all phases of a project is crucial to ensure its success and stakeholder satisfaction.»
