Illuminating the city

The Price Building, a heritage building in Old Quebec City owned by SITQ, was illuminated based on a unique energy-efficient concept that was unveiled in June 2008.

The exceptional architectural character of this landmark building was magnified at sunset, to mark the 400th anniversary of the founding of Quebec. A landmark in Old Quebec City, the Price Building, which dates back to the Art-Deco movement, is a great historical treasure. This project was awarded the 2009 Grand Prix Lumière at the IES provincial competition in the Architectural and Prestige Lighting category.

An efficient project

The dominant feature of the concept is, above all, its energy-efficient component, unique to this day in the deployment of the Capital Illumination Plan, proposed in 1998 by the Quebec National Capital Commission. Therefore, the main principles of sustainable development were taken into account by SITQ and its suppliers in the development of this project, to ensure energy efficiency and to facilitate maintenance of the lighting system. Some 280 light-emitting diode (LED) fixtures and projectors were installed. Furthermore, maintenance was minimized due to the long lifespan of these lighting systems, which is up to ten times that of traditional equipment. This use of LED lights to illuminate a building of this size is a first in Canada.

The illumination of the Price Building was the result of the work of a multidisciplinary team who worked in synergy to accentuate the building’s heritage aspect and its architectural elements, while paying attention to energy efficiency and lighting system maintenance.

Working together to envision tomorrow’s world.

We believe in our employee’s ability to help us create a world rooted in our values of continuous innovation, responsible management and sustainable development.
