Laurie-Eve-Cormier Aquatic Complex
The Laurie-Eve-Cormier Aquatic Complex in Boucherville was delivered in 2017 to replace the Pierre Laporte Sports Centre, built in 1966. The new building retains the appearance of the old sports centre and has new walls covered with a coloured glass ceramic coating, with photocatalytic properties to maximize the supply of natural light.

Characteristics
A sports centre modernized to meet the demands of a population that has increased fivefold since the opening of the old building.
gbi is proud to have participated in the design of this brand new aquatic complex, which includes two 25-metre indoor swimming pools (one with eight lanes and four diving boards, intended for family use, and the other with ten lanes, for elite swimmers), a recreational pool, a dojo, a training room, changing rooms as well as two saunas. A walkway and bleachers for a capacity of 200 people overlook the pools.
Revitalizing a cultural landmark of the region
To carry out this project, two thirds of the Pierre Laporte Sports Centre was demolished, leaving an area of 5,260 m2. Given the building’s location on the site, acting as a key element in the urban fabric, the building has two entrances: one via the road corridor, and the other via a pedestrian link with city hall. The care taken in the choice of materials and the dynamic created by the colours of the curtain wall help establish a dialogue, not only with the immediate environment but also, and especially, with certain cultural references specific to the region and its history.
