Innovations

With a very high flow rate to treat (1.8m3/s), the hydraulic design required a thorough analysis to control hydraulic transients and minimize costs.

The project

  • A rainwater treatment plant from the mining site integrating two pumping stations and two water intakes in the accumulation basins;
  • Two lamellar settlers of the Densadeg type, each including a reactor for coagulation and pH control, and a reactor for flocculation;
  • A filtration and UV disinfection system for domestic service water;
  • A pumping, conditioning, and sludge dewatering system;
  • A technical building of 80m x 33m including structural and mechanical design (plumbing and ventilation);
  • Peripheral infrastructure such as access roads, pathways, and stormwater pipes.

Adaptation

During the project, water quality standards tightened, prompting the integration of additional reactive dosing systems to precipitate metals and adjust pH levels to adapt to the new raw water quality.

Solution

The selected process is robust and designed to handle a wide variability of raw water, such as that observed during the operation of the temporary plant. Additionally, sludge recirculation enhances process robustness while minimizing operating costs associated with reagent injection (coagulant and polymer).
